Karina Buhr is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, percussionist, actress, and visual artist whose career began in Recife (BR) in the early 1990s with traditional maracatu groups. She went on to collaborate with influential artists such as DJ Dolores, Erasto Vasconcelos, and Antônio Nóbrega, and became a member of bands including Comadre Fulozinha — with whom she toured internationally across Europe, Canada, and the US — and Eddie, recording multiple albums. As a solo artist, she has released four acclaimed records — Eu menti pra você (2010), Longe de onde (2011), Selvática (2015), and Desmanche (2019) — and is currently preparing the release of her fifth album in 2025.
Her creative practice extends beyond music into literature, cinema, and theater: she published two books, acted for several years with Zé Celso Martinez Corrêa’s Teatro Oficina, and has composed and performed soundtracks for films, series, and stage productions, with works featured at the Berlinale and platforms such as Disney+ and Canal Brasil. She has collaborated internationally with musicians like Mauro Refosco and Joey Waronker (Jomoro), and performed at renowned festivals and venues including Womex (Copenhagen), Roskilde Festival (Denmark), Rock in Rio (Brazil), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), Casa da Música (Porto), and El Matadero (Madrid).
Awarded Best New Artist by APCA (2010), Karina Buhr has built a singular trajectory that bridges traditional roots and experimental contemporary sounds, affirming herself as one of the most original and powerful voices in Brazilian culture today.
