Maciel Salú is a Brazilian artist from Pernambuco (BR) whose work bridges ancestral traditions and contemporary music. On stage, he brings together instruments deeply rooted in Afro-Indigenous cultures of Northeastern Brazil—such as the rabeca, alfaia, bombinho and ilú—alongside electric guitar, bass and drums. This combination results in a powerful and distinctive sound that explores new musical territories without losing connection to the origins of his artistic identity.
Critically acclaimed for his deep, resonant voice—often referred to as “the voice of thunder”—Salú weaves ancestral melodies and contemporary musical research into his compositions. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award (Best Brazilian Regional Music Album) with one of his parallel projects, Orquestra Contemporânea de Olinda. In addition to his solo career, he leads the Azougue Movement, founded in 2016, which highlights popular culture as the foundation of a contemporary artistic scene driven by artists from Pernambuco’s Zona da Mata Norte, renewing Brazilian popular music from within.
